We have to admire A.J. Hammons’ commitment to the fine art of rebounding.
Hammons, a senior center on Purdue University’s men’s basketball team, snatched a rebound out of the air while holding one of his shoes Wednesday against the University of Minnesota.
The comical incident took place in the second half after Hammons’ shoe slipped off while he was at one end of the court. Hammons picked up his shoe and carried it to the defensive end while the game remained in flow.

Shoes are for your feet, unless you are AJ Hammons and they help you rebound!!!! #SCtop10https://t.co/nqbuTcNOch— NCAA March Madness (@MarchMadnessMBB) January 28, 2016
The rebound was the most spectacular of the eight Hammons pulled down in the Boilermakers’ 68-64 win.
Hammons is averaging 7.8 rebound per game this season, and it’s easy to see why.
