Simon Mignolet: LFC Must Bounce Back ‘Together’ From Capital One Cup Final Loss

Simon Mignolet has urged his Liverpool teammates to quickly refocus on finishing the season strongly following Sunday’s disappointing defeat in the Capital One Cup final.

The Reds were edged out by Manchester City in a penalty shootout at Wembley Stadium after the teams could not be separated over the course of 90 minutes plus extra time.

But with Wednesday’s rematch in the Premier League fast approaching, Jurgen Klopp’s team must get over their setback as soon as possible, according to Mignolet.

“We have to pick ourselves up as soon as possible because we have another game against Man City in the league on Wednesday,” the 27-year-old goalkeeper said.

“It’s not easy after a final, but we have to perform and make sure we keep going in the Premier League and in the Europa League.

“We have to do it together. We have to go again, and we have the chance to play again soon.”

Mignolet also reflected on the heartbreaking nature of the shootout defeat, which came after Philippe Coutinho’s 83rd-minute strike capped a spirited comeback from Liverpool.

“Losing is difficult to take,” he added. “Every time you play a final, there is only one thing that counts, and that’s winning it. We lost, and that’s a disappointing feeling.”
