U.S. Soccer Unveils New Crest, Improves Upon 1990s-Era Logo (Photos)

The United States Soccer Federation is demonstrating what over $1 million and 18 months of work can buy in terms of a new look.

U.S. Soccer unveiled its new crest Monday, updating the badge that appears on national-team jerseys, scarves and other memorabilia for the first time since 1995. Gone is the flying soccer ball, three stars and 11 stripes of the old crest. Here is a new, streamlined look in which “USA” features prominently over 13 stripes.

U.S. Soccer began working on the new logo in the fall of 2014, according to The New York Times. The years-long effort cost “seven figures,” which included the price of a promotional campaign in which U.S. Soccer sent over 10,000 packages and a virtual reality video to various players, fans and celebrities.

The reaction to U.S. Soccer’s new look has largely been positive.
