BOSTON — Back in the preseason, Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid dropped the gloves with Washington Capitals winger T.J. Oshie, a player known much more for his goal-scoring prowess and shootout skills than for his ability to put on the foil.
The Bruins and Capitals met again Saturday night at TD Garden, and this time around, McQuaid picked on someone his own size.
With time winding down in the first period, the 6-foot-4, 212-pound blueliner squared off with Washington winger Tom Wilson, who stands an almost identical 6-4, 215. It was a fair fight, but once McQuaid got warmed up, Wilson stood no chance.
The Caps bruiser got in a few solid jabs, but McQuaid responded with a series of hard rights that first sent Wilson’s helmet flying and then knocked him to the ice.

It was just the third fight of the season for McQuaid, who missed 18 games in January and February with an upper body injury. The 29-year-old typically drops ’em much more frequently, averaging 7.2 fights per season over his first five NHL campaigns, according to HockeyFights.com.
