Jonny Gomes looks like he’s enjoying his time in Japan so far.

The former Boston Red Sox outfielder joined the Nippon Professional Baseball League’s Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in February after he didn’t field any offers from Major League Baseball teams, and he’s already providing some pop in spring training. Gomes launched a two-run home run Sunday in the Rakuten Eagles’ 6-4 win over the Chunichi Dragons.

Gomes also hit a home run March 4 against the Saitama Seibu Lions.

Gomes hasn’t been having the best spring training overall — he’s batting .211 in eight games as the Golden Eagles’ designated hitter — but former teammate Mike Napoli has been showing his support for Gomes’ power.
