Buddy Hield is the best thing that’s happened to the Oklahoma Sooners basketball program since Blake Griffin. Friday, his quest to deliver what Griffin could not — a national championship — begins.

The Sooners are a popular Final Four pick and Hield is a strong contender for Naismith Player of the Year, but No. 2 seed Oklahoma will have to take a step forward from the team that lost to West Virginia in the Big 12 Conference Tournament and to Kansas twice in the regular season should it have a legitimate title chance. Either way, step one is taking care of business against No. 15 seed CSU Bakersfield.
