The Temple basketball team is entering the postseason with high expectations, and the Owls’ first shot to build on a successful regular season comes Friday.
Temple opens its American Athletic Conference tournament slate against South Florida in Orlando.
The top-seeded Owls finished the regular season with a 20-10 record, earning Fran Dunphy AAC Coach of the Year honors. The Bulls, meanwhile, struggled for much of the season, especially in conference play, but they were able to knock off ECU in a first-round matchup Thursday.
Temple did sweep the season series against USF, but the Owls didn’t have to deal with Chris Perry. The junior forward was suspended in January, and he was the team’s second-leading rebounder and third-leading scorer at the time. Perry missed both games against Temple but showed his potential in Thursday’s win, scoring 18 points in 24 minutes off the bench.
Tip-off for Friday’s quarterfinal matchup is at noon ET.
