Bruins’ Frank Vatrano Voted Co-Winner Of AHL Outstanding Rookie Award
Boston Bruins winger Frank Vatrano has received some well-deserved recognition from the American Hockey League.
Vatrano and Colorado Avalanche prospect Mikko Rantanen were announced Thursday as co-winners of the Dudley (Red) Garrett Memorial Award, given annually to the AHL’s most outstanding rookie.

Vatrano has been a force during his time with the Providence Bruins this season, leading the AHL with 34 goals despite playing in just 34 games for the Baby B’s. The 22-year-old East Longmeadow, Mass., native also appeared in 39 games for the big club in Boston, tallying eight goals and three assists.
Following the conclusion of the Bruins’ season this past Saturday, Vatrano was sent back to Providence, which has clinched a spot in the Calder Cup playoffs and will begin postseason play next week.
