Cubs’ Jake Arrieta Crushes 442-Foot Home Run, Compiles Crazy Stats

Jake Arrieta is an incredible pitcher. The Chicago Cubs starter won last season’s National League Cy Young Award with a 22-6 record, 1.77 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 236 strikeouts.

And he rakes.

Arrieta took Arizona Diamondbacks starter Shelby Miller a whopping 442 feet deep Sunday for a two-run homer.

Arrieta’s long home run also provided for some pretty crazy stats about the pitcher. For starters, it was longer than any home run he’s allowed in the past five seasons, per ESPN Stats & Info, and he’s only allowed one home run longer than 442 feet in his entire career. It’s also the longest home run hit by a pitcher since 2009.

Then there’s this.

Arrieta batted just .152 (12-for-79) in 2015, but he did have a double, a triple and two home runs. Cubs minor leaguer Shane Victorino, a former Boston Red Sox outfielder, was amused by Sunday’s show, though.
