John Oliver Lampoons Yankees’ Ticketing Policy, Offers 25-Cent Seats

Ever notice how the best seats in the house at New York Yankees games often are conspicuously empty? Comedian John Oliver has, too.

Oliver, who’s previously takes shots at such sporting entities as FIFA, the NCAA and the Washington Redskins on his show, “Last Week Tonight,” dedicated a portion of Sunday’s episode to bashing the Bronx Bombers.

The Yankees recently instituted a policy preventing fans in their exclusive “Legends Club” from printing out their exorbitantly priced tickets from home, making those tickets much more difficult to resell on the secondary market.

Team COO Lonn Trost followed that up with comments implying that fans who have “never sat in a premium location” are not welcome in the more high-priced areas of the ballpark, prompting Oliver to refer to the Yankees as “the biggest elitist a–holes in all of sports.”

So, to stick it to them, Oliver plans to sell two Legends Club seats to each of New York’s first three home games for a mere 25 cents apiece — but only to fans who promise to dress as embarrassingly as possible.

The contest’s hashtag, , already has produced some hilarious results.
