David Ortiz made sure his superfan, Maverick Schutte, had the best night of his life at Fenway Park.
The 6-year-old from Wyoming, who was born with a heart defect, made headlines during one of the Boston Red Sox’s series with the New York Yankees when Ortiz revealed he had promised the go-ahead home run he hit on April 29Â to Maverick before the game. And on Wednesday, Maverick got the royal treatment for his first game at Fenway.
But one of the best moments came in the top of the eighth inning against the Oakland Athletics, when Ortiz gave Maverick a gift while he was being interviewed by NESN’s Gary Striewski.
Now, there’s a gift that belongs on display.
