Rob Gronkowski will appear on the cover of “Madden NFL 17” when the video game hits stores this summer, making him the first New England Patriots player to do so.
The words “Madden cover” often are followed by the word “curse,” but the All-Pro tight end said recent cover athletes have proven the so-called jinx is overblown.
“The ‘Madden’ curse I feel like is broken,” Gronkowski told Katie Nolan as part of their video series for DraftKings. “You had Odell (Beckham Jr.) on it last year. … You saw his season last year. Richard Sherman was on it the previous year — he had an excellent year. Calvin Johnson broke the record for most receiving yards in a year when he was on it (in 2013). You’ve just got to put it that way.”
