Roger Goodell died. Then, he came back to life. Then, he died again before rising from the dead for a second time.
That’s the chain of events that played out Tuesday afternoon on social media, as the NFL’s official Twitter account was hacked by a jokester who “reported” the NFL’s commissioner’s demise.
Goodell isn’t really dead. He’s alive, well and presumably still plotting his next move against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. But the Internet had a field day with the commish’s fake death and the whole hacking situation.
Here are some of the jokes that flew around Twitter amid the chaos. Spoiler: some are better than others.

It would take a real evil genius to hack the NFL’s Twitter account and play a joke on Roger Goodell pic.twitter.com/7cf3EipRrF

I picture Laremy Tunsil laughing and saying "This is what 'makes the draft so exciting' right Roger!?"

NFL’s instant replay system really is amazing. Huge overturn on the Goodell play, as instead of being dead, he’s alive.

The original hacked tweet was "The NFL has come to an amicable settlement with Tom Brady" but hacker figured nobody would buy that.

I can't wait until the next Ted Wells report indicates that Goodell is dead and Goodell has to deny it in a press conference.

I do not wish Roger Goodell was dead. I do wish he was running a used car dealer in Poughkeepsie instead of the NFL

Classic pandering Goodell. Death is so in right now so of course he fake dies to get people to like him.
— Big Cat (@BarstoolBigCat) June 7, 2016
Roger Goodell is a robot anyway. No way he could die.
