For a whole four minutes, it seemed as though Roger Goodell had died.

The NFL tweeted Tuesday about the death of its commissioner, but the lack of any additional information made it seem pretty fishy.

Twitter immediately assumed the NFL had been hacked, and that was apparent after the tweet was deleted, only to be followed up by two more updates from the hackers.

But if that wasn’t enough proof, ESPN’s Adam Schefter (of course) had the scoop that Goodell was alive and well.

The NFL’s most recently followed account proved to be the culprit, who apparently is part of a larger group of hackers. It’s not the first time they’ve hacked someone in the public eye, either, as they tweeted from Beatles drummer Ringo Starr’s account in February.
