The main story coming out of the Boston Red Sox’s 4-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Thursday was the bullpen’s eighth-inning collapse.

So with that on everyone’s minds, manager John Farrell talked about balancing the roles for different bullpen pitchers.

“It’s been challenging for the individual guys themselves,” Farrell said on NESN’s “Red Sox First Pitch” before Friday’s game at Comerica Park .”When everyone is available and you don’t have the moving parts, guys are much more clear in where their time in the game is going to be. Even when you have guys that need a down day, the next guy up — that’s the next logical step.”
