Andrew Benintendi’s home run-robbing catch Monday was an immediate nominee for play of the year.

The catch helped the Boston Red Sox seal a 6-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays, and prevented things from getting too close for comfort — Boston led just 3-0 at the time, and the shot would’ve plated two Tampa runs in the eighth inning.
As David Ortiz told Benintendi afterwards, that’s a big league play.
