Joey Votto Grabs Reds Fan’s Shirt After Interference, Later Apologizes

It’s not unusual to see Joey Votto jawing at fans, but the Cincinnati Reds first baseman ended up making a friend after his latest run-in with the crowd.

The Reds took on the St. Louis Cardinals at Great American Ball Park on Tuesday and trailed by one run in the seventh inning when a foul ball floated over to the seats on the first base line. Votto was going to make the inning-ending catch, but a fan got in his way and threw him off.

And when Votto saw it was a Reds fan, he was not too happy.

The batter, Cardinals outfielder Stephen Piscotty, ended up striking out, and Votto got some time to cool off. He apparently did some self-reflection, too, as he later gave the fan an apology note on a signed baseball.

Seeing as how Votto is no stranger to joking around with fans — no matter what age — it was a very nice gesture for him to make amends with this one.
