Rio de Janeiro is set to stage the ultimate test of endurance and determination in sports.
The triathlon events at the 2016 Olympics will take place Thursday and Saturday in Rio. The world’s best triathletes will swim, bike and run their way around the Brazilian metropolis with hopes of winning Olympic gold.
The United States hasn’t medaled in the Olympic triathlon since 2004. USA’s best chance at medals are in the women’s event, as Gwen Jorgensen and Katie Zaferes are expected to earn spots on the podium.
Great Britain’s Alistair Brownlee won gold in 2012 on home soil in the men’s event. His younger brother Jonathan Brownlee also is among the contenders to win medals this summer.
