John Gibbons just wanted a whiff of Josh Donaldson’s new cologne. That’s all.
Donaldson and Gibbons had to be separated Wednesday after the Toronto Blue Jays third baseman got into a heated argument with his no-nonsense manager during their game against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Donaldson was asked about the exchange following Toronto’s 7-4 win, and the reigning American League MVP offered a classic explanation.

Troy Tulowitzki was among those who separated Donaldson and Gibbons, prompting one reporter to ask whether the Blue Jays shortstop also wanted a whiff of his teammate’s new cologne. Donaldson confirmed that to be the case, which drew even more laughter from the reporters in the room.
As for Gibbons’ explanation? Well, the Blue Jays skipper seemingly was more dry in his humor.
Gibbons not as jovial
“Told him after first AB, get a new bat that one’s not working. He took same one up there the 2nd time, didn't work."

It sounds like the beef’s been squashed, which is good news for the first-place Jays.
