Jose Fernandez’s Death ‘Shocked’ Red Sox’s Clubhouse, Ruben Amaro Jr. Says

The Major League Baseball world received news Sunday morning that no one was prepared for.

Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez died early Sunday in a tragic boating accident at just 24 years old. It was an incident that stunned the baseball community, including the Boston Red Sox, whose star player, David Ortiz, requested the Tampa Bay Rays hold a moment of silence for Fernandez instead of their originally planned tribute for Big Papi.

So, how did the Red Sox’s clubouse handle the news? According to first base coach Ruben Amaro Jr., it was a very somber scene. Hear what he told NESN’s Guerin Austin about Fernandez in the “Red Sox First Pitch” video above.
