LSU Tiger Mascot Mike VI Dies; Search Under Way For ‘Young, Male’ Successor

The Louisiana State family is mourning following the death of Mike VI, the Tigers’ beloved live mascot.

Mike died on Tuesday at home from cancer, LSU announced in a statement. He was 11 and had been a part of the LSU scene since 2007.

His passing comes as a latest blow to LSU, which already is reeling from its football team’s slow 3-2 start to the season.

LSU members are rallying in support of each other, with fans sharing Mike memories on social media.

Mike VI inherited LSU’s mascot throne, and LSU now seeks a tiger to dub “Mike VII”

“LSU has begun the search for a young, male tiger,” the University said. “As with Mikes IV, V and VI, LSU will seek to obtain a donated tiger from a rescue facility.”
