Portland Timbers’ Jake Gleeson, Liam Ridgewell Arrested On DUI Charges

The Portland Timbers’ miserable season has become even worse in the afterlife.

Portland’s Jake Gleeson and Liam Ridgewell were arrested Tuesday morning in Oregon on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, KGW Portland reports. Both players posted $7,500 bail and are due in court to face DUI charges on Nov. 16, according to The Sporting News’ Thomas Floyd.

The arrests of Gleeson, Portland’s 26-year-old starting goalkeeper, and Ridgewell, a 32-year-old All-Star center back, occurred less than two days after the Timbers failed to qualify for the 2016 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Portland became just the third team in the league’s 21-year history to miss the playoffs in the season after winning the MLS Cup, joining the 2006 Los Angeles Galaxy and D.C. United in 2000 in unwanted company.

Ridgewell and Gleeson will enter MLS’ Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program and won’t be allowed to participate in team activities until doctors clear them to do so.
