Anyone who witnessed J.R. Smith’s bizarre brain fart Tuesday night probably was wondering one thing: “What the heck was he thinking?”
In the second quarter of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ game against the Milwaukee Bucks, Smith wandered off the court in the middle of a play to hug Jason Terry, allowing an uncontested layup in the process.
But almost as weird as Smith’s boneheaded play was his explanation for it.

“I didn’t even know I was in the game,” Smith said vaguely. “My bad.”
Keep in mind this play happened with 2:57 remaining in the second quarter. The game was returning from a timeout, but Smith was on the opposite end of the court from Cleveland’s bench and stationed among his four teammates on the floor — in short, very much in the game.
You’re also probably wondering why Smith is wearing a ski mask in the above video. (Perhaps to hide his defensive deficiencies?) His response to that was equally strange.

In all, it was a pretty weird night for Smith and the Cavs, who were blown out by the Bucks 118-101 as part of a historic night for NBA underdogs.
