Ryan Tannehill’s Knee Injury Not As Severe As Initially Feared, Dolphins Coach Reveals

Ryan Tannehill should be thankful he seemingly has avoided the knee injury every athlete dreads.

The knee injury the Miami Dolphins quarterback suffered Sunday wasn’t a torn ACL, as many initially feared and some reported. Dolphins head coach Adam Gase told reporters Monday that Tannehill suffered sprain knee ligaments, rather than a complete tear.

Tannehill limped out of the Dolphins’ NFL Week 14 game against the Arizona Cardinals in the fourth quarter and watched from the bench, as backup quarterback Matt Moore led Miami to 26-23 win.

Tannehill might not need surgery to repair his injured knee but he won’t likely return to the field in 2016, apparently ending a streak of consecutive starts that dates back four-plus seasons.

But he should be healthy enough to start a new one in 2017.
