Tim Tebow Likely To Play For Mets In Spring Training, Manager Terry Collins Says

Tim Tebow’s baseball road show could outshine the New York Mets’ spring training efforts at some point early next year.

Mets manager Terry Collins told reporters Tuesday he intends to play Tebow in some of his team’s 2017 spring training games, according to USA TODAY’s Jesse Yomtov. Collins didn’t specify whether he’d invite Tebow to the Mets’ training camp or supplement his squad with the 29-year-old ex-college football star. Nevertheless, Tebow will be playing some professional baseball next year.

“I certainly hope we’ll see Tim Tebow in some of our games,” Collins said at baseball’s Winter Meetings. “If he’s not in our camp, I’ll get him over.”

Tebow recently struggled at the Arizona Fall League, hitting just .194 over 19 games. Scouts rated his baseball skills poorly but recognized the positive impact he had on his teammates.

Collins also praised Tebow’s personal qualities and said he doesn’t fear his presence could distract the Mets.

“He’s not into himself,” Collins said. “He’s into being a teammate. A tremendous teammate.

“He’s won wherever he’s been.”

Port St. Lucie, Fla., home of the Mets spring training facility, should prepare themselves for a potential baseball circus this spring.
