Is Doc Rivers ready to switch coasts again?
The Los Angeles Clippers head coach would consider taking charge of the New York Knicks next season, The New York Post’s Marc Berman reported Wednesday, citing a former associate of Rivers.
Jeff Hornacek’s future as Knicks coach is uncertain, and Rivers, who played in New York from 1992 to 1994, might be interested in taking Hornacek’s job if the Knicks try to lure him from the Clippers.
“Doc enjoyed his time there,’’ Rivers’ former associate told Berman. “He respects the city, he respects the organization.’’
Rivers will enter the final year of his contract this summer, and the Knicks likely would have to compensate the Clippers with a draft pick for poaching him.
At this point, New York appears to be a fallback option for Rivers if the Clippers decide not to extend his contract.
He should remember not all options are as good as they initially seem.
