NFL Rumors: How Redskins’ Kirk Cousins Is Approaching Free Agency Process

Kirk Cousins won’t rush into his next football home.

The Washington Redskins quarterback is unlikely to reach an agreement with a new team during the two-day negotiating window next month, ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio reported Tuesday, citing a source. Cousins instead will visit with at least one club when the NFL’s new league year starts March 14.

Cousins is expected to be among this year’s most coveted free agents. The Denver Broncos, New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings all are expected to pursue the 29-year-old QB, who could net a record contract at the end of his search process.

His planned approach to free agency goes against the recent trend in which top free agents agree to contracts during the two-day window and announce their new deals at the start of free agency.

Cousins instead plans on meeting face-to-face with new teams in an effort to make the right, career-defining decision.
