Seven Reasons Why Bruins Are Stanley Cup Contenders After NHL Trade Deadline

Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney was a busy man before the NHL trade deadline, acquiring several players, including veteran winger Rick Nash.

It’s clear the Bruins saw an opportunity to make noise this season, and for good reason: Boston is a legitimate Stanley Cup contender.

Patrice Bergeron’s injury — a fractured foot that will sideline the center at least two weeks — obviously is concerning, as he’s the Bruins’ best all-around player and a Hart Trophy candidate. But assuming he returns before long, without any complications, the Bruins should be just fine.

The B’s entered Tuesday with 82 points, good for third place in the Atlantic Division behind the Tampa Bay Lightning (89 points) and the Toronto Maple Leafs (84 points). It should be noted, however, that Boston has played just 60 games, whereas Tampa Bay has played 63 and Toronto 65.
