Here’s What J.D. Martinez Already Has Learned About Mookie Betts

J.D. Martinez will play his first regular-season game with the Boston Red Sox on Thursday, but it appears he’s already become pretty familiar with his new teammates.

Martinez signed with the Red Sox in free agency last month, and he’s expected to provide a major power surge to the middle of Boston’s lineup. While Martinez likely will serve as the designated hitter in most games, he’ll surely get some looks in the outfield as well.

And as for one of Martinez’s new outfield mates, he apparently made a strong first impression on Boston’s new slugger.

It makes sense for Mookie Betts to always have a smile on his face. In three-plus seasons in Boston, the 25-year-old has collected two All-Star Game selections, two Gold Glove awards and a Silver Slugger. He also finished second in the American League MVP voting in 2016.

So aside from clutch hits and spectacular catches, Red Sox fans can expect a whole lot more smiles from Betts.
