Jimmy Butler Roasts Carmelo Anthony After Syracuse Wins NCAA Tournament Opener

Jimmy Butler believes the ties that bind Carmelo Anthony to Syracuse University have frayed over the years.

The Minnesota Timberwolves swingman trolled the Oklahoma City Thunder forward Wednesday night following Syracuse’s 60-56 win over Arizona State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Anthony posted a photo of the final result on Instagram with the caption “Squad up, One Down!!!, Sorry (James Harden), #STAYME70.”

Butler retorted “You ain’t played there in 30 years. Foh.”

Butler’s comeback was funny for a number of reasons, including his use of comedic hyperbole and pointing out how short Anthony’s college career was.

Anthony played one season at Syracuse, leading the Orange to the 2003 NCAA Tournament title. He left Syracuse after his freshman year, and the Denver Nuggets selected him No. 3 overall in the 2003 NBA Draft.

In the court of trash-talking NBA players, the statute of limitations on Anthony’s connection to Syracuse expired a long time ago.
