Lil Rel Howery got access to Kyrie Irving last summer that might make plenty of reporters and fans envious.

Howery is Irving’s co-star in the upcoming “Uncle Drew” film, meaning he was on set with the Boston Celtics point guard for much of last summer as they shot the movie in Atlanta.

But Irving wasn’t on the Celtics when filming began, and as it turned out, he actually learned of his trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers to Boston while shooting “Uncle Drew.” Howery witnessed the cool moment and relayed the scene Sunday before the Academy Awards.

According to Howery, they were in the middle of shooting a scene when Irving’s friend told him of the trade. Kyrie apparently was pumped.

“He was so happy, man,” Howery said. “… It was a dancing scene, so when you see the movie of him really getting it, that’s him in real life. He was really happy.”

Irving’s reaction makes sense, as most reports indicate he wasn’t enjoying himself in Cleveland and was ready to start a new chapter. That his next destination was a talented club like Boston only seemed to sweeten the deal.

So, when you see Irving’s dancing scene in “Uncle Drew” — which drops June 29 — just know there’s a reason why he has some extra pep in his step.
