NFL Rumors: Patriots ‘In The Mix’ For Falcons Pass Rusher Adrian Clayborn

The New England Patriots reportedly are one of several teams showing interest in soon-to-be free agent defensive end Adrian Clayborn.

The Patriots are “in the mix” for Clayborn, as are the Indianapolis Colts, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons, a source told ESPN’s Vaughn McClure on Wednesday.

Clayborn played in all 16 games for the Falcons in 2017, leading the team in sacks with 9 1/2 and quarterback hits with 17. Six of those sacks came in a single game as he dominated Cowboys backup left tackle Chaz Green in a Week 10 win over Dallas.

Clayborn, 29, spent the last three seasons in Atlanta. Before that, he played four seasons with the Buccaneers, who drafted him 20th overall out of Iowa in 2011.

The Patriots need pass-rush help this offseason. Deatrich Wise showed promise as a rookie, but Trey Flowers remains the only proven, top-level edge rusher on New England’s roster. Fellow rookies Derek Rivers and Harvey Langi were expected to provide help on the edge this past season, but both suffered season-ending injuries.

Free agents can begin signing with new teams at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
