Case Keenum is the Denver Broncos’ big catch, not a mere consolation prize.
The Broncos prioritized the Minnesota Vikings quarterback among their free-agent targets this offseason, The Denver Post’s Nicki Jhabvala reported Tuesday morning on Twitter. Many believed the Broncos would pursue Kirk Cousins for reasons which include constant lobbying on his behalf by Denver star Von Miller.
But Denver apparently was never serious about signing Cousins because they believed Keenum would operate better within their existing offensive scheme.
Case Keenum was the Broncos' guy. Not Kirk Cousins. Broncos felt Keenum was a better fit in many areas. Was told they did not offer Cousins.

Keenum reportedly intends to sign with Denver on Wednesday once NFL free agency begins.
Meanwhile, Cousins is expected to join the Vikings on Wednesday as Keenum’s presumed replacement.
If football fans’ collective memory didn’t link Keenum with Cousins before, their respective free-agency sagas should bond them together for the foreseeable future.
