J.D. Martinez is on the board — well, the spring training board.

The Boston Red Sox outfielder made his spring debut Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins, going 0-for-2 with a pair of flyouts in an 8-1 loss. But the prized offseason acquisition quickly redeemed himself Thursday, picking up an RBI single in the first inning against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Hey, they don’t have to be pretty.

Martinez didn’t stop there, though, as he hit a single to right field in the third inning and a single to right-center in the fifth.

As NESN analyst Steve Lyons noted, fans can expect Martinez to hit the ball the other way early and often. In fact, a huge chunk of his 152 career home runs — including 27 of 48 last season — have been hit to center or right field.

Yeah, we’d say this guy has opposite-field power.
