BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Kyle Bochniak didn’t win his fight against Zabit Magomedsharipov, but he won plenty of fans due to his resilient performance at UFC 223.
Magomedsharipov defeated Bochniak via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27) in a fight that originally was supposed to be on the preliminary card but got bumped to the main card after three fights were canceled due to Conor McGregor’s violent incident earlier this week. The two fighters made sure the fans got what they paid for.
Although Magomedsharipov outstruck Bochniak 97-43 and landed five takedowns, Bochniak’s resilience and ability to withstand Magomedsharipov’s blows resulted in a wildly entertaining fight. Bochniak also repeatedly taunted Magomedsharipov by making faces throughout the bout.
Magomedsharipov entered the fight as a huge favorite and immediately showed in the first round why he’s going to be a force to be reckoned with in the octagon for many years to come.
However, Bochniak showed that he wasn’t going to be a doormat for the Russian prospect, taking punch after punch while having fun in the fight.
The bout ended with both combatants absolutely gassed, but they still managed to get a few shots in before the clock struck zero.
Bochniak now is 2-3 in the UFC, but his performance as a heavy underdog surely will make him a fighter to keep an eye on in future cards.
