Liverpool is having a UEFA Champions League party the likes of which Anfield hasn’t seen in a decade.
The Reds opened up a 3-0 lead over Manchester City on Wednesday in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal series, courtesy of their unexpected first-half explosion. Mohammed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane did the honors for the Reds, who now are relishing the prospect of their first trip to the Champions League semifinals since 2008.
Salah started Liverpool’s fun in the 12th minute when he collected a loose ball in Manchester City’s penalty area.
Oxlade-Chamberlain doubled Liverpool’s lead in the 21st minute with this stunning strike, which FOX Sports gauged at 68 mph.
Mane added Liverpool’s third goal in the 31st minute when he headed home Salah’s cross.
Liverpool preserved its three-goal advantage through the final whistle.
The teams will meet again on Tuesday at Etihad Stadium in the second leg of their quarterfinal series.
