The MLB All-Star break allows for more time for players to rest up or recover from injuries, that might not be the case for two Red Sox players.
Before Boston's matchup against the Kansas City Royals at Fenway Park on Saturday, Chris Martin told NESN's Tom Caron that he shut down his throwing "after feeling more discomfort in his elbow." The reliever was placed on the injured list this month due to right elbow inflammation. Manager Alex Cora confirmed there would be no further imaging, and the club will hope he can return for its West Coast road trip.
Cora also offered an update on Vaughn Grissom, who has been out for over a month due to a right hamstring strain. Grissom will be in Triple-A Worcester while the Red Sox take on the Los Angeles Dodgers and could begin his rehab assignment.
The Red Sox also are hopeful for Triston Casas' return to the lineup, but the return of injured Boston players will have to wait until the end of the month.
