David Andrews Has Unique Insight Into Christian Barmore’s Health Situation

New England Patriots center David Andrews has a unique perspective on Christian Barmore's health scare since he dealt with the same situation five years ago.

"I haven't exactly talked to Christian yet because it's such a whirlwind," the Patriots captain told reporters after practice at Gillette Stadium on Thursday, per team-provided video. "I don't know where he is in that whole process, and each situation is different with things like that, so I'm not going to speak to that."

Andrews continued: "But when the time comes, I'm going to talk to him. Because obviously, it's not a knee, it's not a shoulder ... it's something a little different. Not a lot of people have gone through it to play football."

For Andrews, not only did he not initially know how long he would be out of the Patriots lineup when he was diagnosed with blood clots in 2019, but once he was cleared to play, the COVID-19 pandemic took over the world.

"There were a lot of up-and-down days and some frustrating days ... because it's not, you know when you have to have a surgery," Andrews recalled. "You start off with range of motion and then do something else, and you're making progress each day.

"I didn't know what kind of progress I was making. So that was a little frustrating at times. But just trust your doctors, and you'll come out in the other side."

On Monday, Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo shared that Barmore was no longer in the hospital but couldn't provide a timetable for a return for the defensive tackle.

"It's definitely scary. I'm glad he's doing well and things like that," Andrews said. "But it is different, and each case is different, so I'm not sure exactly what is going on. But I look forward to talking to him and am always there to help him if he needs any advice. It's something I've gone through and I haven't had any issues with that. It's somewhere where you've just got to get healthy and go from there. Worry about your health first."
