The Red Sox announced a series of roster moves before their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Fenway Park.

Boston on Friday announced in a press release that it optioned reliever Greg Weissert to Triple-A Worcester and selected left-hander Joely Rodríguez from the WooSox. James Paxton also was transferred to the 60-day injured list likely ending the veteran's season.

Weissert last pitched Wednesday against the Houston Astros where he posted a scoreless 2/3 of an inning. The right-hander had a 4.10 ERA in 48 1/3 innings this season.

Rodríguez made the Opening Day roster before he was designated for assignment in April. The 32-year-old owns a 1.88 ERA in 14 1/3 innings and held opponents to a .157 batting with 13 strikeouts in Triple-A Worcester.

The Red Sox traded for Paxton before the MLB trade deadline. He made three starts for Boston, recording a 4.09 ERA in 11 innings with nine strikeouts. He was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a calf strain earlier this month and enters free agency following this season.

Boston begins a three-game series against the Diamondbacks on Friday. First pitch is scheduled at 7:10 p.m. ET, and you can catch full coverage on NESN starting with pregame at 5:30 p.m.
