BOSTON -- The Bruins were back on the ice Tuesday, and Brad Marchand was front and center for his second season as team captain.

Boston held the first of two captains' practices at Warrior Ice Arena, and Marchand was the first on the ice. The 36-year-old enters the 2024-25 season on the final year of an eight-year contract he signed before the 2016-17 season. The big contract news for the Bruins has been Jeremy Swayman, who was on the ice Tuesday. But when it comes to Marchand, he prefers news about his contract to be lowkey.

"I'm gonna say this now and kind of leave it at that; I won't ever talk about contract stuff in the media," Marchand said. "I saw a report the other day. I don't know where he's getting his information. It wasn't from our side. We're not gonna talk about it. Whatever goes on will stay internal between (Don Sweeney) and our group. I'll leave it at that. I think there's enough respect between the two sides that we can deal with it."

Sweeney said after the 2023-24 season the goal was to make Marchand a "lifelong Bruin." There hasn't been much murmur since then, but it sounds like the veteran has a mutual goal with the team as he hopes to lead the B's back to the Stanley Cup.
