Why Fans Should Remain Optimistic About Jeremy Swayman’s Bruins Future

BOSTON -- Bruins fans were on pins and needles throughout the summer when it came to Jeremy Swayman's contract, but the Boston netminder doesn't seem too worried about his future.

General manager Don Sweeney, president Cam Neely, CEO Charlie Jacobs and head coach Jim Montgomery each expressed optimism that a deal will get done before training camp. Swayman opened up about the process and also was hopeful to don the Spoked B for years to come. The sides did not file for arbitration, which was a good sign that they were not too far off from a new contract.

The first captains' practice was held at Warrior Ice Arena on Tuesday, and Swayman was on the ice. Joonas Korpisalo and Brandon Bussi were the other goalies present, and the trio rotated at an even amount. So there isn't any indication of roles or statuses within the team.

However, the fact that Swayman was present Tuesday should provide fans even more optimism that a deal will get done between the sides. The restricted free agent did not speak to media after the first captains' practice, but given Brad Marchand did not want to air things about his contract to the media, Swayman might take a similar approach until everything gets signed.
