Jayson Tatum just about had it all in the last year with the Boston Celtics last season.
He won his first championship, “won” another Olympic gold medal, got a record contract extension, graced the cover of NBA 2K and much more. That’s after having a Netflix film crew follow him throughout the year for its “Starting 5” series, which premieres on Wednesday.
Netflix released the opening five minutes of the series on Monday, which includes a feature for each player in the show open. Tatum’s segment features media chatter surrounding his then-inability to deliver a championship for the Celtics. An NBA title also led his mindset, which stayed on display in his first quote of the preview.
“I would cut off one of my fingers to win a championship,” Tatum said.
The Celtics did just that by defeating the Dallas Mavericks in five games in the 2024 NBA Finals with Tatum scoring 31 points in the clinching game at TD Garden. The Celtics dominated their way to a championship by taking out the Miami Heat, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Indiana Pacers en route to Boston’s first title since 2008.
