It sure sounds like Javon Baker missing the Patriots’ London game was a multifaceted issue.
Baker was listed as questionable due to illness leading up to New England’s matchup with Jacksonville, and he ultimately was ruled out for a fourth time in seven games. But after the Patriots’ sixth straight loss, ESPN’s Mike Reiss revealed the rookie wide receiver also was troubled by a “hiccup” across the pond.
NBC Sports Boston’s Phil Perry shed light on that misstep before Sunday’s game at Gillette Stadium.
“It’s my understanding that Javon Baker, the fourth-round rookie, did miss curfew Saturday night in London,” Perry said. “(He) was late getting back to the team hotel ahead of their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was inactive for that game.”
Patriots coaches clearly weren’t too bothered by Baker’s reported violation of team rules. Not only was the 22-year-old active for the Week 8 matchup with the New York Jets, but he also took on a new role when he lined up as a kick returner for New England to open the contest.

Jerod Mayo and company obviously have high hopes for Baker, who has no shortage of confidence. But if the young pass-catcher wants to carve out a consistent role in New England, he will need to make sure he’s handling himself off the field as well.
