The Bruins took care of some business Tuesday, well before their Original Six showdown with the rival Maple Leafs.
Boston placed forward Max Jones on waivers, per the NHL wire. The move arrived one day after Tyler Johnson, who previously was on professional tryout terms with the Bruins, landed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Black and Gold.
Jones signed a two-year, $2 million deal with Boston on the first day of NHL free agency back in July. The 26-year-old was projected to be a solid fit with the Bruins due to his size and playing style, but it didn’t come to fruition early in the season. Jones only played in four of the Bruins’ first 13 games, didn’t log a point in any of those contests and averaged just over 11 minutes of time on ice.
The 6-foot-3 forward, who played his first six NHL seasons with the Anaheim Ducks, could return to the B’s organization if he clears waivers. But it also wouldn’t be terribly surprising to see another team take a flier on a player who was a first-round draft pick back in 2016.
The Bruins will try to push their win streak to three Tuesday night. NESN’s complete coverage of the Atlantic Division clash begins at 6 p.m. ET.
