Could Donald Trump’s Presidency Affect Aaron Rodgers’ Jets Future?

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. probably isn't the one playing a huge a factor

United States President-elect Donald Trump will assume office in 2025, and it could play a factor in Aaron Rodgers’ future with the New York Jets.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his role as head of the Department of Health and Human Services likely aren’t playing a factor, but New York owner Woody Johnson could rejoin the Trump team. Johnson was the U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom during Trump’s first term, and it wouldn’t shock insiders if he assumed the role again. His brother Christopher Johnson and the vice chairman of the Jets took over in his stead and reportedly has better relationships with players and coaches.

“Rodgers, who turns 41 in December, said this week that he wants to play next year, and while Woody Johnson hasn’t been thrilled with his star QB’s performance, Rodgers has a strong relationship with Christopher Johnson. The next month-and-a-half will help shape the team’s decision,” The Athletic’s Dianna Russini wrote Saturday.

Russini added there haven’t been any decisions made on Rodgers’ future in New York. The four-time NFL MVP only offered a “think so” response when asked about his desire to play in 2025, per SNY.

Rodgers’ play didn’t age gracefully into his 40s. The Jets are 3-7 heading into Week 11, and he’s only thrown 15 touchdowns with seven interceptions on a 62.4% completion percentage. The state of his offensive line might also force him to consider his future options.

NFL fans saw this song and dance before when Rodgers contemplated his future with the Green Bay Packers. He entered into a “darkness retreat” and eventually was traded to the Jets. A similar thing could happen next offseason, and Jets fans might pay close attention to Trump’s possible plans with Woody Johnson to get a feel for their quarterback’s future.
