Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp has been… typecast… throughout his eight seasons in the NFL.
It’s something that tends to happen with wide receivers of his ilk. Kupp has been hit with the “gym rat” tag, has been called “more quick than fast” and almost is never discussed without someone bringing up how “tough” he is.
Kupp — not so coincidentally — is a white wide receiver.
The Patriots used to have a damn good one of those, and in the least shocking thing this century, he was referenced by cornerback Jonathan Jones when asked about matching up with Kupp this weekend.
“I don’t want to give comparisons, but he’s kind of like a guy we used to have, Julian Edelman,” Jones said on Wednesday, per NESN’s Sean McGuire. “He’s a grinder. He finds a way to get open, and he’s done it for a while in this league at a very high level.”

Kupp and Edelman have long been linked to one another, and while it isn’t even close to being a one-for-one comparison, they certainly have a few things in common — Super Bowl MVPs included. The Patriots will have a hard time stopping the former, though perhaps Jones’ familiarity with such a similar player (if you believe that) will help.
