Patriots fans will have to wait quite a while for their next opportunity to celebrate the franchise’s all-time greatest player.
At Tom Brady’s team Hall of Fame introduction ceremony in June, owner Robert Kraft revealed plans for a commemorative statue of the legendary quarterback outside Gillette Stadium. The initial plan was to unveil the 12-foot bronze statue whenever Brady was in Foxboro, Mass. to call a New England game for FOX this season.
Unfortunately for the lowly Patriots, they didn’t draw the network’s No. 1 broadcast team in Week 2 or Week 5. The outlook for the rest of the regular season doesn’t appear to accommodate Kraft and company either, which reportedly will put the statue unveiling on hold.
“S, given that Brady is not expected to be in Foxboro this season, according to a source familiar with Brady’s schedule, plans have now shifted to find a date in 2025 that best fits to properly honor him,” ESPN’s Mike Reiss wrote in a column published Sunday.
It might be challenging for the Patriots to lock down a date next season, too. Brady’s assignments for FOX will be based on the success and popularity of the team(s) involved, and it remains to be seen if New England will be much of a draw next year.
