The Boston Bruins were rumored to be a “dark horse” to land Vancouver Canucks star forward J.T. Miller before or at the NHL March 7 trade deadline.
True or not, it became irrelevant when Vancouver reportedly traded Miller to the Rangers on Friday night, one day before New York comes to Boston for a matinee matchup at TD Garden, according to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli and other NHL insiders.
Along with Miller, the Canucks are reportedly sending defensemen Erik Brännström and Jackson Dorrington to the Rangers in exchange for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini and a top-13 protected 2025 first-round pick, per Seravalli. If New York picks in the top 13 in this year’s draft, the pick transfers to 2026. The Canucks are not retaining any of Miller’s contract extension he signed with the Canucks in 2023.
It’s a significant move for the Rangers, who have lost three of their last five games and are currently outside the playoffs heading into their game with the Bruins.
For the second straight week, Boston will host a team after a significant trade the night before. Last Saturday, the Bruins defeated the Avalanche after Colorado was part of a three-team blockbuster trade including former Black and Gold forward Taylor Hall.

Miller has 22 points (seven goals and 15 assists) in 29 regular-season games against the Bruins. He tallied one assist in Boston’s 5-1 win in Vancouver earlier this season and did not play in the Nov. 26 clash at the Garden.
Puck drop from TD Garden is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET and will air on ABC. The Bruins are looking to return to the win column after their loss to the league-leading Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night.
