With full squad workouts less than a week away, former Boston Red Sox infielder Christian Arroyo reportedly signed with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The veteran inked a minor league contract, with an invitation to the Phillies spring training, according to MLB Trade Rumors’ Tim Dierkes.
Arroyo, who turns 30 in May, has played 295 career games with the Red Sox, San Francisco Giants, Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Guardians. He is a career .252/.299/.394 hitter with 24 home runs and 120 RBIs in the major leagues. Arroyo’s last big league action came across parts of four seasons with the Red Sox.
With Boston, Arroyo saw time at all four infield positions and right field. He slashed .264/.306/.411 in in 224 games, with 741 plate appearances. Arroyo hit 18 home runs and 93 RBIs with the Red Sox.
Last season, Arroyo signed a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers but only played 37 games for the Nashville Sound due to injuries.
