New England Patriots fans are rightfully focused on the team’s upcoming matchup vs. the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX.
The NFL offseason will be underway once the big game is over though and there are already rampant rumors linking New England to Las Vegas Raiders superstar defensive end Maxx Crosby.
The chatter has been going on at least since 2024 but has heated up recently, thanks to Crosby himself.
The five-time Pro Bowler made headlines in late January when he vehemently defended the Patriots from their doubters and raised more eyebrows when it was reported on Wednesday that Crosby “wants to play” for New England head coach Mike Vrabel.
Patriots reporter Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald wrote about the Crosby rumors in a column published Friday morning.

“When the time comes, I expect the Patriots to seriously explore a Crosby trade this offseason,” Callahan said. “Again, that’s if he’s available. The Patriots have long seen their edge pass rush as an area of need, and while that group has outperformed expectations this postseason, any return to the Super Bowl is guaranteed to be a rockier road than this year’s path. Better stock up on as much premium talent at premium positions as possible, especially while Maye continues to play on his cost-controlled rookie deal.”
The 28-year-old edge rusher is presumably in the middle of his prime, racking up at least 7.0 sacks in seven straight seasons to begin his career.
Though Crosby would be costly, Callahan noted that New England is a team that could afford the former fourth-round pick.

“Start here: the Pats have the cap space to absorb Crosby’s sizable contract with a projected $42.7 million in cap space for 2026, 11th-most in the NFL). They have the draft picks (11 total this year),” he wrote. “And Crosby would be a hand-in-glove fit for Vrabel’s culture, something Vrabel is mindful of when targeting outside talent, especially high-priced veterans.”
